1.2 - Re-Installation Due to Hard Drive Failure, Changes to System or a New PC

  • WHY DO I NEED TO RE-INSTALL - Our system identifies registered computers by their unique Computer IDs.   The computer ID on our registration servor must match your computers ID. If it does not, then the software asks you to register that computer.  Most of the time, the need for re-installation is obvious, such as replacement of the hard drive or because you have gotten a new computer to replace an old one.  There are other instances that are not so obvious.  Several things that can be done to your computer such as changing your operating system or cleaning your system that will result in a change to your computer ID.  So even if you didn't get a new hard drive or PC, some changes to your system may have occured to change your ID and cause loss of registration.

  • DO NOT INSTALL THE SOFTWARE FROM AN OLD DISK!  If you have an old installation disk, throw it away! It is out of date and will ask for a registration code that we no longer use and you no longer need.

  • REMOVE OLD VERSION If you already installed an old version and it is asking for a license or registration code, then it will need to be removed.  Software, projects, subscriptions and patterns that you have activated are safely stored on our server and will still be available to you after you have reinstalled and activated the new version of CarveWright Designer Software.
    • Basic instructions to REMOVE OLD VERSION for Windows Users:
      • Click on green START button in lower left corner of your screen
      • Locate and click on the Control Panel
      • Windows Vista and Windows 7 users will click on PROGRAMS and then Uninstall a Program
      • Windows XP users will click on Add or Remove Programs
      • It may take a moment for this window to "populate", if you have a lot of programs
      • Locate the CarveWright software and select Remove

  • AVAILABLE LICENSES  - Most customers are allowed to install the software on two computers.  If you have already used those two installations, then one will need to be deactivated in order for the re-installation to take place.
    • Check your Customer Account to see if you already have it installed on two computers by going to Customer Login (click here).
      • If it is installed on two already, you will need to call us at 713-473-6572 and tell us which computer to deactivate.
      • Editing or changing the name of a computer will not work.
      • If you have a license that is still unused, then you are free to install the latest version of CW Project Design software and utilize your available license.

  • INSTALL THE LATEST VERSION (click here) of CarveWright Project Design software onto your new computer or new hard drive.
    • USER NAME & PASSWORD - Not sure about your user name & password? See "General Information for Logging in to your Customer Account, On Line Store & Community User Forum" document above.

    • NOTE: If you encounter a message that asks for your registration code during the installation process, then you are not using the latest version.  See REMOVE OLD VERSION instructions above.

  • Your previously purchased advanced software features, patterns, projects, collections and subscription are safe in our system. They can be re-downloaded from your Customer Account (click here). Don't forget to UPDATE LICENSES from your CW Project Design software after you download them. It is located under HELP - MANAGE LICENSES.

  • Are you being asked to Register Your Software and encountering an "Invalid License Code" error?  Chances are, you are using the Windows Vista or Windows 7 Operating Systems.  To resolve this issue, you must open the CW Designer Software with "Administrative Rights".  To do this, close the software, right click on the Designer icon and select "Run as Administrator".  Go through the software registration steps. Register Online and select that you already have an account. You will need your Customer Account User Name & Password.

 1.5 - Unlock a New CarveWright Machine

  • The latest CarveWright Version C Machines (also called C-Series, because their serial numbers start with the letter C) will arrive locked.  Any operations on this machine will not be possible until it has been “UNLOCKED”.  An eight number code is required to unlock the machine.  This code will be provided to the customer when they register their machine.  If after you have read the following document, you are still experiencing problems, please call Customer Support at 713-473-6572.
